Step-by-step guide on How to Fix a Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans that won't turn on at all

  1. At the main breaker box, disconnect the power to the fan circuit.

  2. Loosen the screws that hold the switch to the electrical box and take off the switch's cover plate.

  3. Examine the switch's side screw terminals with a voltage tester. Ensure that they are not overheated (electrically charged). Then, when you're ready, carefully remove the switch and cables from the housing.

  4. Unscrew the wires from the terminals of the switch. If the cables are stuck in the switch's rear holes, you can pry them out with a small, flat screwdriver by inserting them into the rectangular slots adjacent to the wire holes.

  5. Reconnect the power source. The switch is broken if turning on the fan triggers it to start. Replace the fan switch with the new one you've purchased. Timer switches and Wi-Fi-controlled switches are two examples of supplementary switch types worth looking into.

  6. The power to the circuit must be turned off once more. Put the switch back together and cover it up.

Ceiling fans that make humming noises

  1. Shut off the fan's power at the circuit breaker.

  2. Make sure the fan is turned off by checking the switch.

  3. Take off the cover and the toggle switch. Make sure the fan switch's wires are not live by testing them with a voltage tester.

  4. Take the wires out of the wall and turn off the switch.

  5. After the old fan controls have been removed, the new anti-hum fan control's wires should be twisted into place and the ends straightened out in the electrical box.

  6. Install wire nuts, reattach the control to the electrical box, replace the faceplate, and turn the power back on.

Replacing the flywheel of a ceiling fan

  1. Take apart the fan by removing the blades and opening the housing for the switches.

  2. Disconnect the switches and controls, making a mental note of their original placement.

  3. Remove the old flywheel from the motor, and then disconnect the wires from the engine, noting where they will go again. Then, take out the complete housing using a screwdriver, wrench, or pliers (depending on the switch model).

  4. Please take careful note of where the damaged flywheel is located on the shaft, and then remove it. When the flywheel is no longer there, mark the spot with an enduring indicator.

  5. Replace the flywheel by sliding it into place and threading the wires through the same holes. Put back any screws that came loose and any other components that could have been taken apart.

  6. Replace the housing and reconnect any controls or switches. The fan can be tested after the blades are reattached.

And that it! Your quick guide on how to fix a ceiling fan
